Easter Sunday Recipe


Lamentation of Christ is a beautiful painting and a noteworthy example of foreshortening.

One of the perks of living in a family that celebrates Easter is food. In fact, since no member of my household actually attends church, Easter really is mostly about the food traditions. It was a lonely holiday this year with just my mother and I at home (come to think of it, Christmas was terribly lonely too!), but that did not stop us from making ungodly amounts of food. I thought I'd share one of my favorite holiday dishes. It was passed down from my grandmother to my mother, and my mother to me. It's called "Heavenly Hash." No, not that kind of hash...

Ingredients:

  • 20 oz. can of crushed pineapple
  • 29 oz. can of mandarin oranges
  • 12 oz. jar of maraschino cherries
  • 7 oz. bag of sweetened coconut
  • 1 3/4 bags of 10 oz. "fun marshmallows"
  • 8 oz. sour cream 
Simply drain the fruit, cut the cherries in half, and put them in a large bowl. Add the coconut to taste. After you stir in the marshmallows, you may fold the sour cream into the rest of the ingredients (be careful not to add too much). It's that simple. If you thought I was sharing some sort of secret family recipe, then I'm sorry to disappoint you.

    It sounds like what we call Ambrosia Salad - my daughter loves it. It's (surprisingly) a little too sweet for me! Although we still make a recipe passed down from my mother every Christmas and Easter - it's one of those jellied salads that tastes more like a dessert than a salad. It's got crushed pineapple, lemon jello, whipped cream and shredded carrots in it. My daughter also loves that. Sweet tooth or what! LOL

      It's very similar to that, although I've never had proper ambrosia salad.

Devil's Turnaround

Noonday Missionary Baptist Church's Cemetery is also known as "Devil's Turnaround." It is located along a little back road in Kennesaw, Georgia, and most of the graves are scattered in the woods. It is easy to miss, but some of the gravestones are visible from the road. The cemetery has graves from the 1860's. I wouldn't doubt that some of its occupants were slaves at one time. Many say the land is haunted by malevolent spirits who hurl objects and make physical contact--shoving, scratching, and even biting visitors. I could understand why any lingering spirits might be upset: These grounds have been terribly neglected. Much of the graves are broken and toppled over. DIY Nose Chain

For those of you who've been trying to hunt down a nose chain, you probably know that they're difficult to find. Even online , there isn't a big selection. The ones I've found at a local Indian mall were pretty, but they weren't exactly what I was looking for. I finally decided it would be easier to make my own.  What you need: Any kind of necklace chain (preferably lightweight) Nose ring (you can also make a lip chain if you have a lip ring.) Earring Hook Metal loops (You might be able to find a couple on your necklace) Jewelry pliers (I used regular pliers, but it's a lot more difficult.) How To Make It: Measure out the length you want your nose chain. Using the  pliers, separate the chain to your desired length. Take the piece you need, and attach both ends to  the bigger metal loops. Attach one end to your earring hook and the other end to your nose ring. Make sure the ends are tightened enough where the

Friday The Thirteenth Update

Happy Friday The Thirteenth, everybody. It's my two and a half year anniversary with my boyfriend, Joe, today. Unfortunately, he has work most of the day today, so we went out for lunch yesterday before he had class. We went to an Irish pub. I wore a Punk Hogwarts student outfit yesterday. I don't have pictures, but I wore my Ravenclaw tie over a black dress shirt, my black jean skirt with my "diy or die" patch I just painted, blue and black striped tights, and my trusty Doc Martens.  I love this thing. I'm a Ravenclaw, but my Hogwarts letter was lost in the mail. source Yay for home-made patches. That's the best way to go, in my opinion. I also went out for coffee with my friend, Justean, like we do every Thursday. I went to go use the restroom, and I found this on the door of the toilet stall: It's really neat looking.
