New Haircut Once Again

There's something special about a good haircut. For me, having a fresh haircut, especially if it is an interesting style, gives me a spring in my step. I gain a little more confidence, and I get just a bit more excited about getting dressed and ready in the morning (or in many cases, afternoon). I had previously been wanting to grow out my hair after having much of it buzzed close to my scalp, so for a while, I grew it almost to my shoulders in my natural color. All the while, I craved something different. After I got tired of the color, I dyed it purple. Then, I was somewhat happy with it for a short while. Now, I am back to a short, punky haircut. I don't think I'll be cutting it anymore for the time being. Rooster comb hair next to a rooster bell.

Alter Ego Photos

I mentioned in [this post] back in February that my best friend's father, who owns a photography business, wanted to shoot alter-ego photos of me. Alter Ego photography involves taking two photos of one person portraying different egos and then photo shopping them together. For my photos, I dawned my Jareth Costume and another more feminine outfit I wore to give a ghost tour. I thought the photos turned out well. I even half-joked that I was going to have portrait-sized photos made to put over my mantel when I get a house of my own. I think it would be amusing to have guests over and see their reactions. The piece would be a conversation starter, that's for sure! You remind me of the babe! I move the stars for no one.

Ghost Hunting as a Subculture

"Ghost Hunting" is not only an activity, but it is also a subculture. A Subculture is defined as:      "a group having social, economic, ethnic, or other traits distinctive          enough to distinguish it from others within the same culture or              society." -Dictonary.com By definition, Ghost Hunting is classified as a subculture. It has it's own basic beliefs, celebrities, shows and movies, books and magazines, and conventions. It even has it's own set of demographics, which is mainly adult white males. This subculture is also part of a larger paranormal community. Not all people into the Paranormal are ghost hunters, but every investigator I know of is into the Paranormal. Investigators and paranormal enthusiasts have a wide range of beliefs, but with the uniting belief that there is something else out there. This could be  cryptozoology, UFO's, Ghosts, elementals, etc. source...

Make Up Forever Black Lipstick

source A good black lipstick can be somewhat difficult to buy. I've tried two other black lipsticks before my recent buy. One of them was Hot Topic brand, and the other was a cheap Halloween lipstick. Neither of these were satisfactory. They were thick and difficult to apply. I found out that the main ingredient in the cheap Halloween lipstick was Castor Oil, which would explain the sticky, thick texture. When I found out Sephora carried Make Up Forever black lipstick, I was eager to try it.  I'm pleased to say this Satin Black was such a refreshing change to the other black lipsticks I've tried. It has a very smooth texture that glides onto the lips. It feels very comfortable to wear; this is important considering it's very opaque. It does have a nice satin finish as the name implies. As far as the wear goes, it's long lasting but it does stain a bit. The price for this lipstick was $19. It's a little expensive, but not unaffordable, and it's defin...

Ready for a Hair Change

Throughout my life, I've never really done much with my hair. The most adventurous hair I've had is my current hairstyle. It's short and black, and that's not really bold at all. Although I like my current hair, I think I'm ready for a change. This is the hairstyle I've been wanting: source I'm not planning on going blonde, but I might do something with the color. I'm not sure when I will do this, but probably somewhat soon. What do you guys think?

DIY: Zombie Feltie

It's the first of August, which means It's my best friend's birthday! Happy birthday, Justean! Being the zombie fanatic she is, I thought I'd make her a present to feed her unhealthy obsession with the undead. The first thing that came to mind was...Zombie Feltie! I'd seen them online, and you can even purchase the book of how to make them. Mine wasn't as elaborate as some of these in the book, but they're still fairly simple to make. source Here's what to do if you want one of your own: Step 1: Sketch a plan of what you want your creature to look like. This may not seem so important, but if you don't brainstorm, you might end up with something you don't like as much as you would've hoped. Step 2: Cut out (in felt material) the pieces you need.  Make sure you don't accidentally forget to cut out two pieces for the body. Try not to make the shape too perfect looking since creatures of the undead aren't perfect looking e...

Miami Zombie Attack?

source My dad, who's a zombie addict, told me last night about an attack in Miami. He said a Naked man was eating another man's face. When the police tried to intervene, the man growled while continuing to maul the other man. The cannibal was shot six times before he finally died. The victim, who is now without a face, was rushed to the hospital. The man was either insane, incredibly high, or a zombie. Perhaps I should start formulating a zombie apocalypse plan just in case. An article about this can be found here .

Unexpected Finds at Mainstream Stores

Don't underestimate mainstream stores. With a good eye and a little luck, one can find very charming outfits with a darker aesthetic. Even plain staple items can be modified to your desired looks. Target, department stores, and even, the mall are a few of the many places where you can find alternative or gothic clothing if you look hard enough. Mainstream culture has been showing an affinity for the "edgy look," so take advantage of it. Here are a few of the items I have found at mainstream chain stores:  Forever 21 Target Forever 21 Target Cracker Barrel Store (restaurant) Belk Department Store      My favorite mainstream stores (minus goodwill) are Target, Forever 21, H&M, and Claire's.   Target is a trendier superstore, so they bought into the "edgy" trend. This being said, target stocks some lovely boots and heels. They also carry lacy items, skinny jeans, pinstriped items, etc.   Forev...

Zombies!

I've been seeing a huge rise of zombies in the media. It seems like werewolves tried to upstage the vampire trend, but zombies ate both of them. What is it that mainstream culture loves about these creatures? Is it the post-apocalyptic settings, the gore of it all, or are those lovable rotting faces just too adorable? Everywhere I look, there are zombie books, movies, TV shows, and mass produced merchandise. Even the CDC did a post on emergency preparedness citing the zombie apocalypse as an example. (here's the link) There have even been zombie walks, where people dress as zombies and parade through the streets. I have personally attended a local zombie walk, and it was great fun! My best friend Justean hugging the "free hugs" zombie The first zombie movie Zombies are not a new thing. (The Zombie had it's origin in Haitian culture). So why is it just now that Zombies have especially been on the r...
