A Life Update: End of Summer

Hello, Everyone! It's been almost a month since I've posted anything, and I haven't posted much this Summer, so I thought I owed it to catch everyone up. It's been one whirlwind of a Summer.

I gained a wonderful boyfriend in May, who is more than I could have imagined. Shortly after that, I found out over the break that two of my close relatives are very ill. My grandmother is terminally ill with inoperable cancer, which came as such a shock to my family. She is one of my favorite people on this Earth, and I've had a special bond with her my entire life. She's not expected to have very long. It pains me to know that I won't have her in my life, but she'll always be in my heart. After that, we found that my aunt also has cancer. She just had an operation, so my family's praying for her recovery. On top of all this, we're dealing with other family issues, but I'm happy to say that my brother came home from Thailand early.

Now that school has started, I'm glad to have something to keep me busy. I'm pretty pleased with my classes so far. One of which is an undergraduate peer tutoring course. There are currently four people enrolled. We will be do readings and research, have discussions, and there is a possibility we might be presenting at a related convention! What's more is that we could be funded as writing tutors next semester! It seems so unreal that an opportunity like this would come as a Sophomore in college. I'm also taking courses in intermediate Spanish, World History Pre-1500, and Literary Studies.

In addition, October is coming up, so you know what that means. I'm planning my next costume, and there are no promises so far (I'm working Halloween), but I'm thinking Marie Antoinette... post decapitation perhaps? October is going to be hectic as always, but my excitement's growing.

This Summer has been so concentrated with events, and I'm sure there will be plenty more to come for the rest of the year. With that, I may not post as often as I did, but I still plan to continue this blog.

    I am so sorry for the illnesses in your family, it is a terrible thing when loved ones are ill!

    It is great you are able to do something you enjoy so much! And being a writing tutor sounds fascinating!

    Excited to see your costume! My birthday party this year was on Bastille Day and I had a French theme, but I didn't dress up as Marie Antoinette, I do want to do that one day!

      I saw your Bastille Day post, I believe it was! You could definitely rock a Marie Antoinette costume.

Devil's Turnaround

Noonday Missionary Baptist Church's Cemetery is also known as "Devil's Turnaround." It is located along a little back road in Kennesaw, Georgia, and most of the graves are scattered in the woods. It is easy to miss, but some of the gravestones are visible from the road. The cemetery has graves from the 1860's. I wouldn't doubt that some of its occupants were slaves at one time. Many say the land is haunted by malevolent spirits who hurl objects and make physical contact--shoving, scratching, and even biting visitors. I could understand why any lingering spirits might be upset: These grounds have been terribly neglected. Much of the graves are broken and toppled over. Some are barely visible through the overgrowth of ivy and weeds. People also say the root of the haunting may be related to rumored cult rituals performed on the property. Friday The Thirteenth Update

Happy Friday The Thirteenth, everybody. It's my two and a half year anniversary with my boyfriend, Joe, today. Unfortunately, he has work most of the day today, so we went out for lunch yesterday before he had class. We went to an Irish pub. I wore a Punk Hogwarts student outfit yesterday. I don't have pictures, but I wore my Ravenclaw tie over a black dress shirt, my black jean skirt with my "diy or die" patch I just painted, blue and black striped tights, and my trusty Doc Martens.  I love this thing. I'm a Ravenclaw, but my Hogwarts letter was lost in the mail. source Yay for home-made patches. That's the best way to go, in my opinion. I also went out for coffee with my friend, Justean, like we do every Thursday. I went to go use the restroom, and I found this on the door of the toilet stall: It's really neat looking. DIY Nose Chain

For those of you who've been trying to hunt down a nose chain, you probably know that they're difficult to find. Even online , there isn't a big selection. The ones I've found at a local Indian mall were pretty, but they weren't exactly what I was looking for. I finally decided it would be easier to make my own.  What you need: Any kind of necklace chain (preferably lightweight) Nose ring (you can also make a lip chain if you have a lip ring.) Earring Hook Metal loops (You might be able to find a couple on your necklace) Jewelry pliers (I used regular pliers, but it's a lot more difficult.) How To Make It: Measure out the length you want your nose chain. Using the  pliers, separate the chain to your desired length. Take the piece you need, and attach both ends to  the bigger metal loops. Attach one end to your earring hook and the other end to your nose ring. Make sure the ends are tightened enough where the
